5Solid quality Camwood Whistler loft bed frame
By S. Chesley
We are so happy with this purchase! We bought two espresso loft beds, for our five and half and three and half yr old boys that share small bedroom. My husband and I put them both together in about 1.5 hrs, with the second taking less time after the practice of the first.

Some notes:
- Instructions recommend mattress no taller than 8 inches and it is true for safety. Ours look about that max and are a little too close to top of rail (about four inches).
- the two stairs on upright ladder are slippery. We are going to put some simple stick on tread for more safety, especially for little socked or slippery pj feet. Tired kids with slippery feet need a little extra safety.
- weight limit in instructions states max 165 lb. not clear if this is with or without mattress. But if you planned to snuggle up with your kid, keep this max in mind.
- instructions state for six yr old or older. Well, we have both ours younger. Not sure about why, maybe climbing ladder safety? CYA for company? I feel good that they arent as high as top bunk as in a full bunkbed, from top rail to floor with these lower lofts is about four feet. Putting pillows on floor next to them for few weeks as they get used to them.

Pros:
- easy to put together, do not know about poor reviews in this regard. Instructions were clear and well diagramed, every piece was clearly labeled and every single hole lined up and was pre drilled well.
- very solid quality wood construction, better than expected for low price.
- fun factor is obvious but boys are in love and we are too. They now have a play area in their room, and love hiding and curtains or bookshelves could be added underneath for more fort building and hiding.

Cons?:
- The ladder cannot be on a different spot, it has to go as pictured. I did read a review somewhere that mentioned drilling your own holes if you wanted ladder on another side.
- they do smell (stained wood smell nothing overpowering though) for a few days so it would be nice to take pieces out of box for a few days to air, or have option of airing out room few days before use.
- out of two purchased beds, we had all parts except missing two small screws from one set. We do not have many tools or screws in our house but had two of the same size, easy solve.
- each piece labeled with small (less than inch wide) circle sticker for assembly. Most are inconspicuous, except two large safety ones on interior headboard area. All of them are hard to get off well, and even using fingernail if you scrape too hard the stain starts to come off. Leaving most stickers on as they are on underside or interior of pieces and not too visible.

4Nice Space-saving bed
By T. bosilovic
Cons:
The stain used on the bed has a strong odor for the first several days.
The instructions were poor
The latter isn't really angled so it makes climbing up a little difficult.
There are no good places to grab a hold of when climbing
The description on Amazon and on Wal-mart do not mention that this bed is for 6 yrs and older, and with that in mind if you have a 3 yr old, climbing will be more difficult. I solved this issue by creating a knotted rope for my 3 yr old to hold onto and put a step at the bottom.
Opening where you climb up seems kind of narrow.
Nothing on Amazon or Wal-mart lists what size mattress to buy. Would have been really helpful to know.

Pros:
Saves space
Solid wood
Seems like solid construction
Not too high and not too low.
Wood did not split when I put it together
All pieces arrived in great shape and were all there.
The 6 in mattress that I bought sits low enough that I don't have any concerns about my 3 yr old falling out.

Overall I am very pleased with this bed. My 3 yr old loves sleeping in it.

3Meh. Needs a Prop 65 warning!
By ricodiva
I will review this bed from two perspectives. One from an overall quality perspective for the average consumer. The second perspective for California consumers or those who are concerned about chemicals in their home.

First Perspective:

I would not describe the quality of the product as "solid", from what the top reviewer has described it. I would describe the product as "stable enough". The actual product design is much nicer than the pictures depict. I had really low expectations and was surprised.

This is good for a child 3-8 years. The manufacturer recommends for ages 6 and up so this bed should really be used by a 6-8 year old. I could see where a 3-6 year old could easily destroy the bed with rough use like jumping on a bed, hanging/swinging from the ladder, and bumping into the bed too much while playing underneath. The bed has a slight "swing" to it but nothing different than one could expect from an IKEA type bed. I bought this bed for temporary use so it should hold up for the time being. The manufacturer includes a one year warranty & I would say that is pretty accurate. You may get two years out of this product if you the child is careful.

The ladder is probably the most stable piece of the unit. I honestly had the opposite expectation. The bed is a lot shorter than I had expected also. This was after measuring, before purchasing. The space under neath is only suitable for a child's play. As a short adult I wasn't able to sit underneath without crouching. There was a suggestion from a reviewer that maybe a small adult could sleep with the child. I wouldn't recommend it. In fact, I think only one child by themselves would be safe. Overall, it's a $200 bed & that is the quality you should expect.

Second Perspective:

This bed should include a Prop 65 warning on the description page. There are HIGH levels of formaldehyde used in this bed. My child touched the ladder & can not get the smell off of his hands 24 hours later. I originally was going to buy this bed Thuka Low Loft Bed with Angle Ladder and Slide but given the price for something we only need for a year or two I decided to go with the cheaper model. They are both similar in size & look similar in structure quality. Not buying this bed was a HUGE mistake. I will now have to pay for a UV-C air filter putting my costs at about the same price of the FSC, non-toxic bed. The bed has been quarantined for 24 hours & the smell is still very strong. It is spreading through out my whole house & making us very dizzy. I am VERY careful about the products I buy & make sure that we buy products with little or no VOC content. Perhaps we are not used to those types of chemicals & that is why it is affecting us. Regardless, I have bought a lot of new things & nothing I have bought has EVER had a smell this strong. I am seriously concerned about the smell & if it does not go away in a week I may have to give this bed away. Saving money is not worth my families health.
